Losar e Chötrul Düchen
On February 28 we will celebrate Losar, the Tibetan New Year. This is the year 2,152, represented by the Wood Snake.
For 15 days after the new year, we have the sacred period of Chötrul Düchen, which commemorates the occasion on which Buddha Shakyamuni manifested a miracle a day for fifteen days, with the motivation of inspiring faith in his followers.
The culmination of this period is the first full moon of the Tibetan lunar year, this time to be celebrated on March 14.
In this very special period, the effects of our actions, both virtuous and non-virtuous, are multiplied millions of times. During this powerful time of multiplicity, our practice and virtue have the potential to amplify even further, creating excellent conditions for bringing benefits to ourselves and all beings.

The word Losar is a Tibetan word for the new year. LO means year and SAR, new. The Tibetan New Year is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, which usually falls in January or February, although it can also occur in March.
On the eve of Losar, although it is not a Buddhist tradition, it is customary among Tibetans to carry out a general cleanse of the home, closets and personal practice environment.

In the Buddhist tradition, protecting beings from suffering and premature death is a powerful practice of compassion. We all know that taking the life of a being is a very bad thing, contrary to ethics. Conversely, saving a life is a virtuous act of extreme significance. Upon releasing the animals, we pray for their well-being and spiritual connection, and conclude the ceremony with dedications.
Offerings can be made by 6pm (UTC-3) on the day before the saving practice, using the form below.
